Preamble & Constitution

PREAMBLE

The object of this Club shall be to bring our group together in order to benefit our community in furthering education and devoting time to the study of arts, sciences, common habits and traits, and Americanism.

CONSTITUTION

Article I – Name

The name of this organization shall be Thibodaux Amigas Club, Inc.\

Article II – Membership

Section 1. Membership is by nomination by a current member of the Club when the total number of members is below thirty-two (32).

Section 2. Honorary membership in the organization is open to any person who has served twenty-five (25) years or more as an active member. Honorary membership shall be an automatic procedure if said member so requests. No monetary responsibilities are required of any honorary member.

Section 3. Associate membership in the organization shall be limited to any member who has resigned from the Club because of the necessity of relocation in another community. Associate membership shall be an automatic procedure if said member so requests. No dues are required of an associate member.

Section 4. An associate member in good standing will have the right to reinstatement in this organization when there is an opening, provided she has again located in this community.

Section 5. The rules of maintain membership in this organization shall be as follows:

a. attendance of regular meetings during the Club year.

b. willingness to serve, for each member will be obliged to do her duty in respective committee.

c. payment of dues.

Section 6. The dues of this organization shall be $20.00 annually and shall become payable at the October meeting.

Section 7. A leave of absence from the term of one year at a time will be granted to any member in good standing for a good and valid reason. No dues are required while the leave of absence is in place.

Section 8. Resignations must be submitted to the Club in writing.

Article III – Officers

Section 1. The officers of this organization shall consist of a president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer.

Section 2. These officers shall be nominated by the membership and election committee, and voted upon by ballot at the March meeting every two years. A majority of the members present shall be necessary for elections.

Section 3. The installation of officers will take place at the regular meeting following the election.

Article IV – Meetings

Section 1. Regular meetings of this organization shall be held on the second Wednesday of each month from October through April.

Section 2. Special meetings may be called at any time by the president.

Section 3. The order of business shall be as follows:

a. Call to Order
b. Club Collect
c. Minutes
d. Report of the Treasurer
e. Report of Committee

f. Unfinished Business
g. New Business
h. Adjournment

Section 4. Two-thirds (2/3) of the members present shall constitute a majority of the transaction of business.

Section 5. It is the responsibility of the hostesses to inform the president of the meeting’s location two weeks prior to the meeting so that the president can notify the member’s via email.

Article V – Committees

Section 1. The committees shall be appointed by the board over the summer. Assignments shall be given at the first fall meeting.

Section 2. The standing committees are as follows:

a. Program
b. Yearbook
c. Ways and Means
d. Wilma Rodriguez Nursing Scholarship
e. Mamie Bourgeois Memorial Award
f. Beverly Jones Christian Award
g. Publicity
h. Social
i. Membership/Elections

Article VI – Amendments

Section 1. The constitution and by laws may be amended at any regular meeting by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the active members present.
